The APC Back-UPS 600 power supply started screaming this morning. There was no sign of power outage (nearby devices plugged into the same source we're still fully powered). We were unable to silence it without pressing the button. So we let it squeal while we looked up the official APC literature. The symptom of loud continuous beeping despite having full power seems to be attributable to a failing battery. Eventually the horrible screeching harpy relented. It died - and cut power to both sources of Internet connection (Comcast and CenturyLink). We happily moved the modem/router plugs to a nearby power strip. Connection seems to be restored.
